The Ottawa branch of Bereaved Families of Ontario (BFO) is accepting registrations for its Art Therapy for Grief Youth Program.

The nine-week program begins the first week of April and is for children and teens recovering from the death of a loved one.

Facilitators encourage participants to explore their feelings through various means, including creating drawings, paintings or collages inspired by specific themes and relaxation techniques.

BFO is a self-help, peer support organization. They encourage the sharing and expression of emotions and personal experiences in small, peer support groups for children, teens and adults who are dealing with the death of a loved one.

BFO is also taking registrations for its 10-week Adult Closed Groups. These groups are facilitated by trained BFO volunteers who have also experienced the death of a loved one. After a short film or guest speaker, the facilitators help to structure the discussion, share their experiences, as well as answer questions. Participants are welcome to share, or simply be present with other bereaved people who are learning to live with their grief.

There is a specific group for parents coping with the loss of a child.
