Dear Compassionate Friend:

The clocks have gone back but we are still looking forward to several events that we hope you will be able to attend. These include our annual Candle Lighting, a workshop on Resilience, and our monthly Sharing Circles.

  1. Candle Lighting Celebration – Sunday December 9th

Our 20th annual Candle Lighting Celebration in conjunction with the World-Wide Candle Lighting in memory of all children who have died will take place at St. Augustine’s Church Hall, 1060 Baseline Road. Please arrive at 6:30pm for a prompt 7:00pm start. Candles will be provided and light refreshments will follow. The attached poster gives more details.

  1. Resilience Workshop – Saturday November 10th

Ottawa parent Sue Kavanagh has organized a half-day workshop on “Moving Through Grief – The Role of Resilience as a Companion on the Journey” from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at the McNabb Community Centre, 180 Percy Street. For more information and to register, please contact Sue at HealingBrokenHeartsinfo.

  1. Sharing Circles – every third Tuesday

Our Sharing Circles continue year-round on the third Tuesday of every month from 7pm to 9pm at The Olde Forge Community Resource Centre, 2730 Carling Avenue (at Richmond Road). Our next meetings are on November 20th, December 18th, January 15th , and February 19th. There are no fees to attend and no need to register in advance – please arrive a few minutes early to sign in. You can find directions and a map on our Chapter website www.tcfottawa.net.

  1. Always With Me

Following a successful book launch last month, this anthology of parents’ stories of loss compiled and edited by Donna Sharkey has sold over 600 copies and includes several local contributors and others from coast to coast. Some copies are available on loan from our Chapter library, and they may also be ordered from Octopus Books in the Glebe.

  1. Website / Facebook

Our Ottawa Chapter website (www.tcfottawa.net) includes information on our Chapter activities and events, links to helpful resources and reading materials, as well as recent newsletters from Chapters across the country. The latest national newsletter from TCF Canada is attached for your information.

Our Facebook page (search for “The Compassionate Friends Ottawa Chapter”) provides a channel to post and read comments from other parents. TCF Canada also operates a moderated closed group for parents across Canada. Search for “The Compassionate Friends of Canada” and answer a couple of questions to gain access.

  1. Unsubscribe

If you would prefer not to receive these occasional updates, please reply to this e-mail and I will remove you from our mailing list.
