Call for volunteers

Hello fellow parents,

The Compassionate Friends (TCF) of Ottawa just held our Annual General Meeting. During our discussions, it was mentioned that our Publicity Chair would like to step down from her position. We are also restructuring some Facilitator positions. Our Committee is hoping that one or more of our TCF Members would like to join our Volunteer Committee in either capacity. It is such a self gratifying feeling to be part of a group, knowing you can help people in need who struggle with losing a child. Please consider joining us.

The Publicity Chair duties:

  • Reaching out to our Newspapers, Community Bulletins, Media (Radio and TV), and other Ottawa Resources which include but not limited to Hospitals, Funeral Homes, etc.)
  • Meeting with Committee members twice a year providing updates on initiatives

The Facilitator duties: ( 2 facilitators per meeting)

  • Available every 3 mths., on the third Tuesday, from 7pm -9pm, Olde Forge, 2730 Carling Ave
  • Co-facilitate the meeting, in a group setting, helping other parents who are grieving the loss of their Child
  • Arriving at the meeting approx.. ½ hr prior to start time to set up ( chairs, library books, pamphlets, etc.)
  • End of meeting, clean up and inform fellow facilitators who attended and in general how the meeting went

Facilitators need not be educated professionals in Grief, just parents who have lost a child and are willing to help in the healing of other grieving parents. The only requirement as a facilitator, is that you are in the position where enough time has passed, since the passing of your own child, that you are now willing to help others. We have found that although we all grieve the loss of a child in our own time frame, 4 yrs or more since the passing of your child is usually best in this role.

Thank you

Larry and Paulette Cadman
